Eleven individuals reportedly wounded in a blast on Istiklal Avenue, a pedestrian thoroughfare in Turkey’s greatest metropolis.
An explosion on Istanbul’s well-liked pedestrian Istiklal Avenue has injured 11 individuals, Turkish media has reported.
Footage confirmed ambulances, hearth vans and police on the scene within the Taksim space of town on Sunday. The reason for the explosion was not clear.
“There are robust suspicions that this was a suicide bomb, however we don’t have any official assertion but,” Al Jazeera’s Sinem Koseoglu mentioned from Istanbul.
Broadcaster CNN Turk mentioned 11 individuals have been injured.
The avenue is a crowded thoroughfare well-liked with vacationers and locals, lined by retailers and eating places. Social media customers mentioned retailers have been shuttered and the avenue closed down.
The explosion occurred at about 4:20pm (13:30 GMT).
Koseoglu mentioned the explosion comes as a shock, as there haven’t been any latest warnings over assaults within the metropolis.
“However safety measures have remained excessive within the space,” she mentioned.
