Dominican lady hides $450K of cocaine in wheelchair throughout NYC smuggling try, CBP says


A suspected drug smuggler tried utilizing her wheelchair to deliver $450,000 value of cocaine into New York Metropolis final week throughout her return from the Dominican Republic. 

Emelinda Paulino De Rivas, a Dominican citizen, arrived at John F. Kennedy Worldwide Airport on Nov. 10 from Punta Cana, a well-liked vacationer vacation spot. She was in a wheelchair when U.S. Customs and Border Safety officers determined to interview her, the company stated Monday.

Upon additional inspection, the officers discovered cocaine hidden in all 4 wheels, CBP stated. 

De Rivas was arrested for the importation of a managed substance and was turned over to Homeland Safety Investigations.

“CBP stands steadfast and decided in working with our companions to determine the transnational legal networks liable for importing these lethal medication into our neighborhoods,” stated Francis J. Russo, Director of CBP’s New York Area Operations.

The cocaine weighed 28 kilos and amounted to roughly 75,000 doses, authorities stated. De Rivas faces federal drug smuggling costs.
