TMC minister beneath hearth for making controversial remarks on Prez, later apologises


The BJP lashed out on the Trinamool Congress and stated Giri’s comment mirrored the ‘anti-tribal’ mindset of the TMC

Nandigram: West Bengal Minister Akhil Giri on Saturday drew widespread criticism for making controversial remarks on President Droupadi Murmu.

After the video clip of his feedback went viral, Giri apologised for making such a comment.

In a 17-second video clip, the authenticity of which PTI couldn’t confirm independently, Giri was heard commenting on the “appears to be like of the President”.

“They (BJP) stated that I’m not handsome. We do not choose anybody by their look. We respect the workplace of the President (of India). However how does our President look?” Giri, the minister of state for Correctional Houses, was heard saying at a rally in a village in Nandigram late on Friday night.

Later whereas speaking to reporters this morning, Giri apologised for making such a comment.

“I did not imply to disrespect the Honourable President. I used to be replying to what BJP leaders stated whereas verbally attacking me. I apologise for making such a comment. I’ve immense respect for the President of our nation,” he stated.

Nonetheless, the BJP lashed out on the Trinamool Congress and stated Giri’s comment mirrored the “anti-tribal” mindset of the TMC.

“President Droupadi Murmu hails from the tribal group. Akhil Giri made objectionable feedback towards the nation’s President. These feedback mirror the anti-tribal mindset of the TMC social gathering,” BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar stated.

Amit Malviya In-charge of BJP’s Nationwide Data & Know-how Dept, Co-incharge West Bengal stated in a tweet, “Akhil Giri, minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cupboard, insults the President, says, We do not care about appears to be like. However how does your President look? Mamata Banerjee has at all times been anti-Tribals, did not assist President Murmu for the workplace and now this. Shameful stage of discourse…”

The TMC stated it does not assist such a remark however will not take accountability for remarks made by leaders in a person capability.

“We do not need to touch upon stray remarks by people. The social gathering neither helps such remarks nor takes accountability for such feedback. We’ve immense respect for the President of the nation,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh informed PTI.
